Craggy Eyries by Equestria-Prevails Craggy Eyries by Equestria-Prevails
A young Prince with the typical arms and armour of the North Griffonian Youth Brigade. Youth Brigadiers act as mobile skirmishers, harassing the enemy line with short thrusting or throwing spears, and pistol or rifle fire, before withdrawing behind the main advancing force of older and more experienced men-at-arms (formations of polearms supported by bowmen or riflemen) or heavy cavalry (typically heavily armoured pegasi spearmen).

Way to go putting griffons in a more favorable light than their in-show counterpart

This looks awesome and I love the story behind it. Strikes me as odd to include firearms in their world tho

Gustav isn't so terrible. He's just a victim of circumstance. They weren't given a bad spotlight in Equestria Games either. Yet I'm in heavy agreement they need for spotlights on other griffons.

yes, I feel the griffons we're presented with in the show aren't very flattering to their kind. Shame though, griffons are cool creatures.

I like that medieval kingdom-y feel the griffons have, reminds me of GoT. But I'm not too keen on the guns

Yeah, I'm in agreement. The matchlock seems to be out of place compared to the rest of the piece. Perhaps we'll see better gryphons in season five or six.

Deepest apologies if I've asked this before, but do you take commissions? I'm writing a fantasy novel with a gryphon and a hippogryph as two of the main characters, and I'd love to see them in your style.

Well, just look at this fav.me/d5u0q7r or if you prefer fav.me/d5n70o7. Both of them are pictures with young Alex. If you compare them to this one, you'll find a lot similarities. Plus, the description says "A young Prince". I think it's pretty clear after that.

It's interesting how at first in your art the ponies and gryphons were enemies but now they seem to be working together. That does make me wonder who the villains are though, changelings?

Interesting

Though, in our world, the widespread use of firearms made metal pate armor ineffective, so its use declined. That doesn't seem to be happening here, is there an explanation for that?

Looking at this image, one can notice that the projectiles from their weapons look more like energy balls then common bullets. It may have different impact on heavy armor, thus, not making it so useless as it is with modern ammunition.

You can still see that the griffon side seems to be using normal bullets. Or not? You can't really take a good look at the projectile. It may be different, it may not.

I like to believe that this "era" that EP is creating is based on more XVI century, with weapons like arquebus. Thanks to its high amount of time that it took to reload it, the battles were 98% melee, where the 2% were the soldiers on the front line shooting first, then pulling out their swords and spears.

Just my two cents.
